A Quiet Strength
by Susan Bernard

Last year the Christian & Missionary Alliance National Team chose the theme “MORE” where we were encouraged through the scripture found in Isaiah 61:1. As we reflected on this verse, we contemplated how we, as Christ’s sent ones, could proclaim the good news that “In Christ, there is MORE!”

For this second year, the theme MORE, we will think about Isaiah 61:3b which says: “to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

I echo the thoughts from my friend Beth Zimmerman as she reflected on this verse. “Each of us, through Christ, receives an invitation to exchange our ashes (what we’ve lost) and our burdens (what we are needlessly carrying) for His life-giving presence and provision! As we receive life, help, and healing from Jesus, a quite strength emerges. It is beautiful, and like an oak tree, we are rooted and strong” We will be planted as oaks of strength and righteousness!

May this be so for the women in your church this year!
